I use this little scope for checking shots in competitive rimfire benchrest shooting at 50 yards. The table tripod is marginally adequate. The optics are very good, at least as good as my Weaver 36x target scope. I'm not a scope snob, but I can find no flaws in the optical quality, focus and resolution are sharp. The size and compactness of the kit fit in the bottom of my toolbox and are exactly what I needed for rimfire benchrest at 50 yards. I can see .22 holes at 100 yards. I can not see them at 200 yards.

The Celestron 52230 features a 12x to 36x magnification and an objective lens diameter of 50 millimeters, giving it a 4.2-millimeter exit pupil. (The exit pupil size -- the diameter of the objective lens divided by the magnification -- determines the amount of light available to your eye. The larger the exit pupil, the brighter the image obtained will be. A three-millimeter exit pupil is generally sufficient for daytime use, five-millimeters is suitable for daytime and twilight, and seven-millimeters is generally necessary for maximum nighttime or astronomy use.)
